Flyer of the Month
September is Suicide Prevention Month
There are over 49,000 deaths every year are caused by suicide in America alone. Around 20 % of high school students seriously consider suicide every year.
There are many warning signs of mental health issues that could lead to suicide. Some of these signs are extreme mood swings, increased drug and alcohol intake, a loss of interest in hobbies, becoming withdrawn and tempermental and talking about becoming a burden to others.
There are many ways to try to prevent suicide. The first would be to seek proffesional help. The easiest method anyone can help prevent suicide is called the 3C's of Suicide Prevention. The first C is connection. You do this by making sure the person in crisis feels understood and not isolated or alone. The second C is collaboration. This is where you work with the indivual to investigate and identify possible solutions. The final C is choice. Choice is when you empower the indivual by involving them in the desicion-making process for their care and recovery.
