Flyer of the Month
November is National Diabetes Month
Approximately 12% of the U.S. population has diabetes. There are two types of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is when your immune system destroys insulin producing cells in the pancreas, causing glucose to build up in your blood instead of entering your cells as energy. Type 2 diabetes is when your body can't produce eough insulin or use that insulin effectively which causes blood sugar levels to rise.
Some warning signs of diabetes are excessive thirst, frequent urination, extreme hunger, unexplained changes in weight and severe fatigue.
You can reduce the risk of diabetes by stopping smoking and vaping, exercising at least two and a half hours and maintaining a healthy diet.
To detect diabetes, look at at your family history and have annual tests/screenings done.
