Flyer of the Month
July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month
While mental health affects people globally, regardless of ethnicity or gender, minority cultures tend to be less accepting towards it. This is often because deep-seated stigmas and because they tend to view mental health issues as weakness and personal failure.
Minority groups also tend to avoid mental health proffesionals due to a long history of racism and bias against minority cultures within the healthcare systems.
Finally, many minority communities feel pressure to appear perfect or successful, often burying and hiding their mental health issues instead of seeking the health needed.
